Night Photography: City's Electric Pulse
Streets of Christchurch
Strolling through the vibrant streets of Christchurch, New Zealand, the enchanting glow of Delilah restaurant immediately caught my eye. The warm, inviting decor was too charming to pass up, so I decided to stop for some fish tacos and a burger. While waiting, I couldn't help but snap a few photos, trying to capture the cozy ambiance.
As the evening went on, my walk led me to the magnificent Isaac Theatre Royal. Lit up beautifully against the night sky, it was a truly breathtaking sight. I played around with a slower shutter speed, and the results were a fun, unexpected surprise—some artistic photos of the lights that just felt right.
Vivid Sydney: 15 years and counting..
Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere's largest multi-art form festival, annually transforms our city into a dazzling canvas of light, music, ideas, and food. I've been immersed in its magic since the 2010s, and looking back now, these are some of my favourite night shots. Some of these were taken with my trusty basic Nikon DSLR, others with the Sony A7 IV. Can you tell the difference?
For me, solo walks through the city with my camera are a meditative experience, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the moment and the creative process.
In the meditative flow of experimentation, I discovered Vivid Sydney's true brilliance lies beyond the dazzling lights, in simple joys—like the glow of children's faces reflecting their illuminated balloons.
Sometimes, these wonderfully imperfect, unfiltered shots, captured while exploring camera settings, are the best reminders that not all photos, or life itself, need to be perfect. Here’s to embracing the beautiful chaos!
